Anna Retico lives and works in Rome where she graduated from the Art High School and the Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in set design.

After gaining professional experience in cinema, theatre and photography, she returned to artistic handicraft, her true first passion.

For several years she has been experimenting with the creative opportunities of many materials: ceramics, wood, papier mache, fabric, glass. In her workshop in Trastevere, the ancient heart of Rome, she creates jewelry and objects d’art for interiors, as well as installations for hotel chains and famous Italian fashion brands.

Her long research into materials and shapes has led her to jewelry and costume jewelry design. She creates innovative objects, mainly of glass, while acknowledging and incorporating the wisdom and craft of the ancient masters. She has developed a glass fusion technique with lampworking by blending colors and “cuts”, and then melting every piece in the kiln: necklaces, rings, and earrings are conceived and assembled in unique works.

Often her jewelry has incorporated other materials: paper, wood, perspex, and recycled materials such as aluminium. The results are unique one-off pieces, never obvious, never mass produced.

The latest collections use unusual materials such as plastics and rubber, shaped with traditional methods such as crocheting or entirely new processes where, however, the manual skills remains the main element.

Some of her creations have been selected by MoMA design store in New York and by the bookshop of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.
